Geocache Description:

Pete’s Pond Preserve is a trail located behind Wickliffe High School, and Maintained by the Lake Metroparks. The cache was placed with permission from the Metroparks.  Use the school entrance drive entrance by the park sign. Proceed straight to the northeast corner of the school parking lot where ten parking spots are designated for park visitors to use.

The trailhead is located just north of the designated parking area.  The 1.15 mile long trail will take you through some woods, along Pete’s Pond, up and down a couple of hills and around a loop back to the same trail that brought you in. The cache is located along the loop portion, just off the trail. Lake Metroparks requires that you remain on the established trail until you are close to the cache location.  Note: there is an additional cache along the loop: ”Way back there”.

As an Alumni of WHS, some local legends are known that this property was once owned by Franklin Rockefeller (John D.’s brother) and that Mr. Rockefeller trained race horses here. Mrs. Rockefeller had flower gardens throughout the property. You can see remnants of their private Railroad that went through the property. Some of the trail sections, especially going up the hill to the loop, are old brick roads that were unfortunately covered up with stone to prepare the trail.

Congrats to CHFSHOME for the FTF!
