An unusual sight so far from the sea! Certainly this is high and dry, we have passed this hundreds of times and often wondered how it got here and why. Thanks to lamroc and Old Rabbit for finding out more about this vessel - it is a life raft from the Wahine which sank in Wellington harbour on the 10th April 1968. The owner bought it on Trademe for one dollar. He has various plans for it, just a garden ornament or a party boat. He wants to come up with a novel way to celebrate the 50th anniversary in four years time.
UPDATE on its history - taken from this article in The Wairarapa Times Age July 2017 - Wahine relic languishes
