Geocache Description:

SECOND ANNUAL GCHR KAYAK EVENT COME ONE, COME ALL
Date: 07 JUN - Time: 0830

Bobs Fishing hole. 4243 Battle Field South Blvd Chesapeake, Virginia 23322 (757) 421-2855

This event is a 7 plus nautical mile (approx) round trip down the Northwest River and back. THIS JUST IN! There will also be a campfire event conveniently at Northwest River Park the evening of this kayak event. Here is the link to that event: http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC548VN_2nd-annual-campfire-mg-end-of-a-busy-day-ii

This event is for all of us who love Kayaking or Canoeing and most especially for those who have always wanted to learn to kayak so you could try those water caches. The event itself isn't a cache run (but there are caches in the area), but to get together with cachers who enjoy kayaking and with cachers who have NEVER KAYAKED.

Meet time is 0830. There is a two dollar launch fee for kayaks or canoes that each participant will need to pay at the counter inside the shop. Make sure you tell the clerk you are launching a kayak as the fee is higher to launch a motorized boat. We should be launching around 0900 or as soon as everyone is ready.

Beginners are encouraged to attend this event. We will meet and greet and then get underway. Guidance and tips on kayak/canoe safety will be offered if desired. We will be kayaking as a group, so any beginners can team up with some of the kayak veterans.
*SPEEDO's are not recommended! This dude pictured below is the gate keeper and will be checking very closely anyone who dares to wear a Speedo
If you need a Kayak rental, recommend trying Oceana Naval air station if you are retired or serving. They have very reasonably prices with pick up on Friday and return on Monday. There are other options as well, but this will be left up to each individual who may need a rental!

Please see the related link for Bob's Fishing Hole. This is where we will launch from.

Here is a picture of my last Leisurely paddle on the Northwest River. :-)

Recommend bring life vests/flotation vest (if you have them), fluids, and a lunch or snacks.

Please remember we will likely see lots of wildlife, so if desired bring your smart phones or cameras (in a waterproof zip bag) so you can take some pictures. I will be taking pictures as we go. Also make sure you bring sunscreen, bug/tick spray, a hat with visor, sun glasses (with a retainer so you don't lose them) and plenty of water. Food bars and energy bars are also great to have on these type of excursions. I always bring a sturdy stick with me when kayaking.

*CO assumes no liability for the resultant actions of cachers towards those who show up in SPEEDO's! Speedo's shall be worn at your own risk. CO bears no responsibility for any pictures that may be taken and then spread all over the various social media sites of cachers wearing the aforementioned Speedo's.!
