Geocache Description:

Make sure you bring a camera for this one. These are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

While out with friend new to geocaching they suggested going to see these coke ovens. I knew about them but had never been there before and didnt know how easy it really was to get to. So we headed out. Its amazing to see the rows of these ovens and be able to walk inside of them. Sadly all thats left is about 2/3 of the actual oven. All the rest has crumbled away by the elements.  But its still, truely an awesome site.  There are a few old buildings from when the trains would go through there hauling the coke away. they are all still in good shape. not much left inside though. Definitely take some time to explore the area, just be careful of wildlife, especially the slithery kind LOL. It was awesome to read on the history about them too after we got back as to how they got started. I was telling my mom about going up there after we got back. She grew up in Columbia. She said she remembers seeing the coke ovens burning. They never got real close to them, but you could see them from the road and as far as the EC junction.  There is also an ATV trailhead near the location. They have put in a playground and bathroom. so your not completely without facilities LOL. no running water though. I guess there is a camp area near there too. so if your looking to get out a bit, take your trailer up there and explore.  The cache container is easy to find. getting to it is a little bit of a climb up a hill though.
