George Washington is memorialized on Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. He appears in the first postion on the mountain. Washington was our first president and was unanimously elected in 1788. He is known as the Father of Our Country. He was the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. One of his best known victories occured when he crossed the Delaware River in the dead of winter, and defeated the British forces holding New Jersey. His victory restored momentum to the war.
