Geocache Description:

A few years back, I had scouted out this spot for a library tribute geocache but, before I submitted it, Wall-E hid a cache at the same general location as part of his excellent "Book Worm" series. When I discovered this morning that "Coral Reef Bookworm" had been archived 3 or 4 months ago, I knew I just couldn't let this library sit without its tribute!

The Gamer family just LOVES the library system, and we especially love the Coral Reef Library, which we visit at least twice a week.

Top Ten Reasons To Love The Library (in mostly random order):

10.  Gamer Mom worked at the library (in New York) throughout high school and loved it.

9.  Gamer Mom's father worked at the library (in New York) for around 45 years and loved it so much that he felt he never worked a day in his life.

8.  The people at THIS library know us...they're like family!  Talk to a librarian...they're great people!

7.  Free internet access for everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status.

6.  They host community events here...chess clubs, storytelling, etc...for free!

5.  Who needs Netflix when you can get most DVDs (and CD's, and books on tape, and MP3s, and CD-ROMs, and old newspapers, and games, and graphic novels, and more) at the library for free?

4.  You can browse their selections from the comfort of your home, put in requests, and, when the item becomes available at any library in the system, it will be shipped right to your branch...or even to your own home if you'd prefer!

3.  Need information?  The librarian will take as long as you need to help you complete your quest!

2.  A civic hub.  You want to vote early...the library is your place!  You want an energy audit device...you can get one at the library!  You need tax assistance...they provide free help to all who need it!

1.  Books books book books books!  When Benjamin Franklin invented the library, he was at his absolute best.  Imagine...a system where books are loaned...and returned.  Where fiction, non-fiction,...ANYTHING that's been published...is available to ANYONE who is interested.  Again...for free!

When the politicians again start talking about putting the library on the chopping block...whether it's closing library branches, reducing hours, reducing holdings, firing librarians to hire laymen...raise your voice!  The library is one of the most beloved and valuable centerpieces of a community...let's always remember that!

Oh, and one other thing available at the library....

GEOCACHES!  At many libraries in Miami-Dade County, you can find one of the caches in the aforementioned "Bookworm" series.  And now Coral Reef Library hosts one again.  You are searching for a small container in which small swag and trackables could be placed.  Retrieval of the cache will be a challenge...but have fun figuring out how to get to it.  (The additional hint can be useful if you need it.)  Remember...the library ELEVATES a community...and this is a library tribute.....

Bring your own pen, and please make sure to replace it where (and as) you found it so passing muggles won't be able to see the cache in its hiding spot.

NON-REQUIRED REQUEST: When you post your log, put in your own two cents about the library, whether it's anecdotes or discussion of what the library means to YOU.

Note: I wasn't sure about the difficulty/terrain ratings, so feel free to give your recommendations if you think the current ones are off. Thanks!

Cache on!
