How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Tools of the Trade - we geocachers all use them - from tweezers to flashlights to extension poles and ladders. There are lots of electronic tools of the trade that some folks use as well. This event will focus on some of the electronic tools that help make geocaching easier and/or more efficient.

We plan to provide a few different sessions on a variety of topics. Some will be concurrent sessions so you won't be able to attend them all. Several topics are geared towards helping newbies but all are welcome to attend. If you are experienced in any of these topics please volunteer to teach one OR to assist - many hands make easier learning.

Please note the sessions you are most interested in when you log your will attend. If you have an idea for another topic please indicate that as well. We will finalize the offerings about a week before the event.

Topics that we are considering include:

  • How to build Pocket Queries and Caches Along a Route (you must be a premium geocaching member to take advantage of these features but they are mighty handy in planning your caching adventures.)
  • GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) Getting Started - YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD a free version of this onto your computer before you get to "class" from gsak.net. After 21 days of use you will get a "nag" screen but you can continue to use it.
  • GSAK - Filters - Now that you have a GSAK Database how do you sort and find stuff?
  • GSAK - Favorite Macros - Need to figure out if you qualify for a challenge? Or want to map out the caches in your Database? There's a macro for that!
  • GSAK - APIs Explore the power of APIs - from Getting caches to Publishing logs. A powerful set of tools.
  • GSAK Junkies - For the more advanced users - come share your best GSAK tips n tricks
  • Mobile Apps for Geocaching - Exploring the variety of apps available for mobile devices. Android and iPhone apps - this will NOT be a "How to" for specific apps but rather a discussion and sharing of the various apps that are available

Bring your own computer for some hands on time. We will have wifi available.
There is ample parking at the facility.
