We are letting balloons fly... & form the International Geocaching Logo with people for an aerial photo
There is a popular tradition in Switzerland of releasing balloons at special events. These balloons have a note attached to the string with the persons name, address and so on. On this note the finder of the balloon is asked to send a reply back on where the balloon was found. After a certain time frame, usually a few months, the balloon with the farthest travels is the winner and its owner gets a special prize and of course bragging rights.
Schedule of Events:
10:30 – 10:45 am
Arrive at the event site and register with the attendant in the bright yellow safety vest on the road
11:00 am
Pick up balloon at the cube van (uHaul)
Form the International Geocaching Logo by huddling together on top of the temporary markings on the pavement
11:11 am
Theme song starts playing and photos will be taken
11:15 am
Listen for the end of the song and the whistle blow. Let the balloons go!!!
3 ways to participate:
Option 1: You want to participate in the balloon contest the convenient way.
You pay $ 5.00 per balloon. We provide the pre-sold balloon at the event site with a laminated card that has your geocaching handle as well as the instructions printed on it for the balloon finder. The entry fee we charge is for the balloon, string, card, laminating, transport to the event site, pre-sale transaction fees and the prizes. Any additional money, if we sell LOTS of balloons, will go towards additional prizes. We have prizes like WWFM geocoins and other geocaching items. Maybe even a GPS receiver as first prize, if the money allows.
Each balloon gives you one entry to the contest, but you can buy as many balloons as you wish. It is not necessary to be present at the event to take part in the balloon contest.
Option 2: You want to participate in the theme without paying for it.
If you are not interested in the event sale and the chance to win some prizes you are welcome to come out and just bring a balloon you purchased before the event to let it fly with the others. But no prizes in this case.
Option 3:
Just come out to the event and have some fun. Meet the other geocachers and see the balloons fly.
