St. George’s, Eastergate

Eastergate Parish is mentioned in the Domesday Book, where it is called 'Gate,' and a Saxon window in the chancel provides the earliest evidence of a place of worship in Eastergate since records began. The church is a grade 1 listed building and is situated in a farmyard with views across the fields. The churchyard is large, having been extended in recent years, and well maintained. There is a large area for car parking in the farm yard thanks to the generosity of Manor Farm.

St George’s has one bell inscribed to the memory of John Boniface, and is dated 1737.  There are some fine stained glass, one of which is the Arundel window which is over 630 years old, the east window is a memorial to the 1st Earl Kitchener, who was killed in 1916.

Church is normal open to have a look around during day light hours (9am -5pm ish)
