Split Rock consists of approximately 241 acres within the Hogtown Creek watershed and is composed of upland mixed forest, upland pine forest, floodplain forest, and other wetland habitats. It is bordered by the Alachua County owned Lake Kanapaha Park to the south where water flows through this property to Hogtown Creek and ultimately into Haile Sink and the Floridan aquifer. Split Rock derives its name from the large limerock outcropping located on the site. The property was acquired in January 1995 as part of the Hogtown Creek Greenway project to help protect the last remnant portions of Sugarfoot Hammock and an important aquifer recharge area within a rapidly developing urban area.
