The original bridge here has been replaced with a new wider bridge, the original bridge was a open iron bridge, the wemian children and parents of wem would come here to wave at the train drivers and hopefully get a TOOT TOOT !!!! as it went under the wooden slated bridge. Word would get round Wem if a steam engine was coming through, wemians would go stand on the bridge and enjoy the experience of soot faces, nowadays people stand in the field or on the steps of the bridge to watch for trains, or you can stand on wem station its self. The Bridge fields is also a public footpath and used to get from one side of the town to the other with access from aston road which is sign posted, or there is access from the town centre carpark to the Bridge fields.
