Geocache Description:

The Lapworth Museum of Geology has the finest and most extensive collections of fossils, minerals and rocks in the Midlands. The Museum dates back to 1880, and is one of the oldest specialist geological museums in the UK.

The Museum is named after Charles Lapworth, the first Professor of Geology at Mason College, the forerunner of the University of Birmingham. Lapworth was one of the most important and influential geologists in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Located in the University’s Grade II listed, Aston Webb Building, the museum retains its original Edwardian setting and interior.

Finding the cache

The co-ordinates take you to the cache but you will also have to find the guardian of the cache ERYOPS MEGACEPHALUS to open it.  The geocache was placed inside the museum with the kind permission of the Museum Director. The cache container has been made to be in keeping with the museum furniture. It will require some stealth to locate it but it is designed to be child friendly.

In the cache is the log book and various items most of which have a geological link. Please feel free to take or swap the items. The cache is large enough to take most travel bugs. The museum is fascinating, we hope you enjoy your visit and write something in the log.

It is hidden in plain sight and secured with a combination lock. The code to the combination is the age in millions of year of its guardian. ERYOPS MEGACEPHALUS.
