Geocache Description:

St. Michael's Church in Beer is one of the two Anglican Churches which make up the Coastal Mission Community in East Devon.

The Church of St Michael, consecrated in 1878, was constructed on the site of a 16th century chapel. It originally had a spire, but this was removed in 1964 after a lightning strike, for safety reasons, and replaced with the current tower.

Built in the Decorated style, the church was mainly constructed of Beer stone from the nearby quarry. The walls and most of the tower consist of Hoole Head blue limestone and the columns which support the nave arcade are of Devon marble.

Amongst the interesting artefacts inside the church are an old clock and the Washbourne light, which was the old harbour light that was situated on the cliff above the beach, and used to guide the fisherman back to Beer.

The cache is not within the church grounds but is nearby. The area is very popular with tourists, so stealth will be required when retrieving and replacing the cache. There is only room for the log, so please bring your own pen.

Please replace the cache exactly as found to reduce the risk of it being spotted by passing muggles.

Congratulations to Roughies for FTF
