Geocache Description:

Traditional cache set on a lovely ford in rural Cambridgeshire

You might be forgiven for thinking that the nearby village of Duxford gets its name from a crossing of this little river - perhaps it was called the Dux in the past? Or it was a common place for ducks to be seen crossing the shallow stream? Actually, Duxford used to be called Duxworth and only acquired the name Duxford much later on. So it has nothing to do with the ford at all. Which is all well and good, as it's much closer to Hinxton anyway! I did see some ducks paddling across the ford when I placed the cache, so it's very appropriately named.

I like fords. So I placed this cache at one to encourage more people to come and enjoy the slightly bizarre beauty that is a river running across a road. Take care when crossing the ford, and pay attention to the big white poles at the sides - they tell you how deep the water is. Don't attempt to cross if the water is more than a foot deep. Also take care crossing on foot, bicycle or horse as the concrete base can get quite slippery, especially in the summer when the algae grows.

You may well get wet feet retrieving this cache!
