Kastedammen
Gaula er en av Norges beste lakseelver, og ble i 2005 kåret til den aller beste med 37,5 tonn total fangst.
Laksefiskekulturen er en viktig del av Midtre Gauldal kommune, og kommunesenteret Støren kaller seg selv "Norges laksehovedstad".
Kastedammen, med oppholdsplassen ved siden av, ble bygd i 2010. I laksefiskesesongen fylles dammen med vann slik at man kan lære seg - eller trene på - fluekasting.
Bak dammen ligger Gaula Natursenter, med turistinformasjon og laksebørs. Her kan man også kjøpe mat, fiskekort, fiskeutstyr, husflid og håndtverk, eller man kan se over 60 forskjellige arter utstilt i sitt rette element i en utstilling om livet i og langs Gaula.
Ved siden av natursenteret ligger Gaulasenteret, som huser lensmannskontor, ambulansetjenesten, mattilsyn, treningsstudio, bank og frisør, med mer.
The casting pond
The river Gaula is one of the best salmon fishing rivers in Norway, in 2005 named Norway's best with a total catch of 37.5 metric tons.
Salmon fishing, and its culture, is important to the municipal of Midtre Gauldal, with the municipal centre Støren calling itself "Norway's salmon capital".
The casting pond and the area around the pond was built in 2010. During fishing season the pond is filled with water, so that you may learn - or train to perfect - fly casting.
Behind the pond is Gaula Nature Centre, with tourist information and catch statistics. Here you can also buy something to eat, fishing licence, fishing equipment or local craft. Or you can go see over 60 species of animal in an exhibition of life in and around river Gaula.
Next to the nature centre is the Gaula Centre, housing the local Police, local ambulance service, "Mattilsynet" (food and animal regulatory agency), a gym, a bank, a hair dresser, and more.
