Def: Milestone:
- An important event, as in a person's career, the history of a nation, or the advancement of knowledge in a field; a turning point.
- A significant event or point in development.
The Rats have reached what can be described as a significant milestone in their geocaching career. On Sunday the 1st June “The Rats” will celebrate their 10,000th geocaching find with an event and we want you to share in the celebration.
Back in January 2002 when geocaching was nothing more than an underworld, never talked about, geek’s game, The Rats found their very first cache not far from this picnic spot. 12 years later that particular cache is still going strong and geocaching has seen a lot of changes.
- A nano was never heard of
- A regular size cache was a piece of Tupperware stolen from the kitchen
- A micro was a film canister, not an eclipse tin
- Swaps were all the rage
- Powertrails????
- A drive-by cache was unheard of
- An FTF could wait a week or more
- Locationless caching still around
- Virtual caches were allowed
- Density nor distance didn’t matter
- Paperless caching was a distant dream and
- 20+ finds in a day was a big challenge
- A 1000 finds seemed impossible, heaven forbid 10000.
- How times have changed!
Please join us for a picnic in the park as The Rats celebrate this unique milestone. The area has a large playground nearby, a BBQ if you want to do some cooking and plenty of grass for everyone to laze around. There are some tables and chairs throughout the park but we suggest you bring your own chair or rug. We'll be having a group photo after lunch to celebrate this milestone. Hope to see you there.
