Geocache Description:

Welcome to Khao Mai Kaeo. This is a popular destination for walkers, runners, off road cyclists and trials motor bikers who want to get out into the jungle. The local Hash comes once a week and there are several other events through the year. There are two main trails 10km and 6km. To hide the first set of 6 caches here I used a combination of both these routes.

More info with directions to get there and GPS directions for the 2 routes can be found at this useful site. http://bicyclethailand.com/khao-mai-kaeo/

The paths through the park are narrow and steep. Some places are not passable by normal road vehicles. Off road trials bikes, mountain bike and by foot are the recommended modes of transport. Bring plenty of water and snacks, sun screen and mozzie repellent - there is a small shop just before the entrance to the car park here. Bring a phone and tell a friend where you are going. There is a sign with phone numbers just to the right of this cache. Take a photo of it.

Khao Mai Kaeo Macaw is the first of 6 in this 14km loop. I rode my mountain bike which is a tough ride but enjoyable. Not for the inexperienced! This is steep off road terrain through hot, humid jungle. You will have to push your bike on some parts unless you are a champ. If you are not used to this climate and rugged tracks, you may be best walking or running. Again, this is an extreme run! I did the 10km loop once which was hard.

Whichever mode you choose, you will need to be prepared. The tracks change with the weather. Rain carves ruts, moves rocks and uncovers roots. The wind fells trees and huge beams. The sun bakes it dry and the rain turns it to mud. I love this jungle. I will give you a coupe of waypoints to tell you when to make a turn off the trail. The trail twists and turns, rises and falls to the point of disorientation. Trust and follow the trail even when your GPS points the opposite way.

So now you are set.

You are looking for a Jamie Zel nano magnetic. BYO pencil.
