5. Black Rock Traditional Cache

Black Rock Nature reserve is managed by Somerset Wildlife Trust on behalf of the National Trust. Black Rock forms part of the Cheddar Gorge Site of Special Scientific Interest and is part of a Special Area for Conersation because of the limestone grassland, ravine woodland and rare greater and lesser horseshoe bats.

This cache is placed in the wooded area of Black Rock Nature Reserve. The main species of tree are Ash and Hazel with many other species of ground plants. Dormice can be found in this coppice woodland using the nest boxes we attach to trees, along with yellow-necked mice and pygmy shrew. Dormice are a protected species, please do not disturb the nest boxes.

The cache is a small cylinder. The contents includes some Somerset Wildlife Trust stickers and badges.
