Yes Sammy, we know you can't drive 55. But certainly you can hike 55 ...
that is, visit and log 55 caches in Grant Ranch.

We bought Sammy's truck which apparently went faster than 55.

This is especially important if your traveling velocity is in excess of 55.

Joseph D. Grant County Park, a.k.a. Grant Ranch, is a 9,560-acre expanse located on the western flanks of the Hamilton Range. The park's terrain was formed by earth movement along the still active Calaveras Fault. The landscape is primarily a chaparral of oaks, shrubberies, and grassland which provide breeding habitat and food for over 32 species of birds and 39 species of mammals. Trails meander along the many ridges and through the Halls Valley suspended between two of the ridges. We began hiking there at the beginning of our geocaching career back in 2007 and have been treated to picturesque vistas, majestic oaks, lush poison oak, leg burning climbs, and a variety of wildlife that include coyotes, raptors, European wild pigs, deer, quail, vultures, and of course the not so wild life, domesticus mooglius.

Slowly but surely, we worked towards the goal of clearing out the park, a Grant Happy Plate if you will. However, it seemed that every time we got close, an intrepid cacher would place another hide in some remote corner of the park. Finally on March 15 of this year, my older son and I signed the log of Duck Pond. Our quest was accomplished!

There are currently 210 active caches with posted coordinates within the Grant Ranch boundary, plus at least 69 archived caches. These may be seen in the attached Joseph D. Grant County Park bookmark list. To log this cache as a find, you must have found at least 55 caches with posted coordinates within the park boundaries AND signed the log of this cache. You may sign the log and post a note prior to completing the requirements. This challenge cache may count as one of your 55 finds. Qualifying finds may also include archived caches, provided you logged a find on those caches while they were active and the posted coordinates for those caches are within the park.

For cachers with hides within the park, your hides seen as orange stars on the map may be counted toward satisfying the challenge requirements. This is only fair because such cachers have a handicap in that there will be fewer caches for them to find.

Logging requirements: To demonstrate that you have satisfied the requirements of this cache, please upload with your log a “screen shot” of the Geocaching.com Map showing your finds within the park. (see Grant Happy Plate). If your screen shot shows at least 55 found caches within the park, you're done. If it shows fewer than 55 found caches, then include in your log a list of the additional found archived caches that you are claiming to satisfy the challenge requirements. Please include in that list the GC number and the date you found the cache. As an alternative to a screen shot, you may prepare a bookmark list of all your qualifying caches and link it to this cache page.
