Geocache Description:

This cache is called the "Golden Spike" because the last pavement completing Interstate 90 was laid here in the 1970's.

Stop in the eastbound or westbound Blue Earth rest area on I-90 and spend some time looking for this cache.

This cache is hidden in a cheap plastic food container measuring about 7 by 7 by 2 inches [edit - October 2022 - this is now a large mayo/peanut butter jar]. It is about a 15 minute walk from either parking area to the cache. There are nature trails accessable from the eastbound rest area, but the cache is not hidden there.

The cache contains a pencil and a logbook. On May 22 2004, We replaced the cache (somehow it had been lost...) verified it's position.

If you are on a cross-country trip, take a break and find the cache!

If you need a place to camp overnight, the Faribault County fairgrounds located just south of the freeway has inexpensive camping. Full hookups are available in a gravel parking area, and some tent sites are available in a shady grassy area. Very nice bathrooms and showers are available to both camping areas. Turn right at Bomgaars, and watch for the entrance to the fairground area on the left.
