~~Drive east on State Highway 410 from Enumclaw 24.8 miles to Huckleberry Creek Road #73. Turn right (south) onto Road #73 and follow 0.4 mile to trailhead just past bridge. Trailhead is on left (east) side of road. The trailhead has 10 parking spaces on road shoulder. Forest service pass is required.
This trail is an early and late season trail which follows along the west side of the White River. At mile point 2.1 is Skookum Falls. The best time to view the falls is from early spring to June.
The hike is also accessable from Buck Creek Rec area approx 6 mile south of FR73.
The trail is a beautiful, relatively flat hike with some ups and downs, mud, roots, small creek crossings...the last portion to the falls is an uphill scramble through mud, loose rock, downed trees..but only for a 1/4 mile. It is an unmaintained trail but there is a sign pointing you to the base of the falls. Becareful on the wet rocks near the falls. VERY SLIPPERY. Probably a little hard for smaller kids (under age 6 or 7).
Use your Geosenses at the base of the falls. You're looking for a black canister, clearly marked with a Geocache sticker. Please return it as you find it (well disguised). There is room for some trinkets and small doodads.
