Commissioner’s Park is located along the north edge of Dow’s Lake. It is an attractive setting at any time of the year but most especially in the spring during the annual Tulip Festival.
This multicache will take you to eight waypoints located at informative, commemorative, or decorative installations in and near Commissioner’s Park on Dow’s Lake. They can be visited in any order. At each waypoint, you will obtain a single digit number. Once you’ve got all eight numbers, you’ll use them in some simple calculations to obtain the cache.
Pictures at each waypoint are encouraged but, please, no spoilers.
WP1 -- The Rideau Canal Promenade [N45 23.829 W75 42.194]
At this location, there is a vertical sign that marks the beginning of the Rideau Canal Promenade, along with a pair of informative panels that describe the formation and operation of the canal.
The vertical sign has a symbol at the lower left. A is the number of solid leaves minus the number of outlined leaves.
WP2 -- Keep Wildlife Wild [N45 23.836 W75 42.212]
At this location, there is an instructive sign.
B is the number of black dots COMPLETELY ON the red portion of the sign.
WP3 -- HMCS Carleton Anchor [N45 23.735 W75 42.343]
This location has several commemorative items connected to HMCS Carleton which is is a unit of the Canadian Forces Naval Reserve. It is housed in the nearby buildings.
Count the number of links in the chain at the top of the anchor, rounding to the nearest multiple of 10. Divide the result by 5 to obtain C.
WP4 -- Entrance to Commissioner's Park [N45 23.803 W75 42.398]
At this location, there is an informative plaque giving the reason for the tulips that are planted here each year.
D is the number of tulips on the plaque.
WP5 -- The Man with Two Hats [N45 23.868 W75 42.320]
The Man with Two Hats is a monument commemorating Canada's involvement in the liberation of the Netherlands.
E is the number of rivets used to join the lower leg to the upper leg. Count for one leg only.
WP6 -- Air India Flight 182 [N45 23.880 W75 42.141]
At this location, there is a plaque commemorating the 329 passengers and crew who lost their lives on June 23, 1985.
F is the number benches there are in the tiled circle that includes this plaque.
WP7 -- A Millenium of Christianity [N45 23.887 W75 42.133]
At this location, there is a plaque commemorating a millennium of Christianity in Ukraine. Note: This plaque is on the ground and will not be visible in winter.
Stand on the sidewalk at this location. Stay on that spot and turn around in a full circle to identify the lampost nearest to you. Then face the plaque. If it's not visible, face the nearest tree. G is the number that indicates where the lamppost is relative to you.

WP8 -- Raised garden [N45 23.869 W75 42.132]
This location has a decorative item in the form of a large raised circular garden.
Stand on the west side and look west towards Dow's Lake. There are 6 trees in the grassy area in front of you. H is the number of white birches.
