Geocache Description:

Cache is not at posted coordinates. The caches in this series all contain questions related to the history of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. All the information needed to answer the questions in this 21-cache series can be found by going to the corps Guidon.

Six of the Medal of Honor caches (seven total) all contain hints to help you find a 21st cache. You need to complete those first before going after the final one in the series. All containers in the series, except for the final, are small homemade bisons constructed out of PVC with soda bottle tops. They are painted in such a way as to be VT appropriate.

Best of luck! Contact cacheNquilt or myself directly with questions. Take care, and best of luck!

“The Rock”

The Rock sits in between the two main residential halls on Upper Quad where the Corps of Cadets resides.  It is currently moved to a temporary site while these dorms are undergoing demolition and reconstruction.  It sits immediately in front of the regimental flag pole, nestled in-between two re-mounted 19th century cannons slated for wartime scrapping in World War II, that were saved by cadets who threw them in the nearby “duck pond” to hide them and keep them from being taken.   Originally intended as a monument to those Techmen who gave their lives in World War I, the Rock has since become a symbol of all those who have sacrificed their lives in the service of their country.  All cadets, non-commissioned officers, and commissioned officers salute it as they pass as a sign of respect.

The Rock is inscribed with what phrase?

  1. Lest We Forget                                                        N 37 3.359           W 76 24.716
  2. They Came in War to Wage Peace                            N 37 3.559           W 76 24.516
  3. For God and Country                                                N 37 3.359           W 76 24.516
  4. Pro Patria Mori                                                         N 37 3.559           W 76 24.716
