Geocache Description:

FTF: GPS Derek

Small winter friendly cache just outside the playground.

Nick’s Dragonfly Playground

Serves as a memorial to Nick Mykitschal, a child with Duchenne Muscular dystrophy, who spent many Happy hours in the city of Guelph parks, especially enjoying the accessible swing at the Daisy Pope Play structure in Riverside Park. The name also servers as a tribute to Nick’s Family who established the “Nick’s Dragonfly fund” following Nick’s Death in 2000, raising money to supply and install accessible swings for the community parks in Guelph for children with disabilities to enjoy.

The dragonfly theme is related to an extraordinary experience for Nick that occurred while he was enjoying a relaxing day in Royal City Park with a friend. Nick suddenly reached out and plucked a dragonfly from the air. He examined it briefly and then released it back into the air. While the story was being told in a moving tribute at Nick’s memorial service suddenly a profusion of dragonflies engaged the mourners.

Cache is a small cammoed peanut butter jar. Contains a coffee for FTF and a few small trade items.
