Originally, this cache was placed in a park in town that celebrated the local hero, Harold Spatz. Unfortunately the original cache was vandalized and removed and so I moved it here so I could keep the cache in play. If you'd like to see Spatz Park, there is a waypoint listed with the coordinates.
Harold "Skinny" Spatz graduated from high school in 1939 and joined the US Army Air Corps soon after. He was one of the pilots involved in the first retaliation from the United States to Japan during WWII, this retaliation is better known as the Doolittle Raid. His plane crash landed in Japanese territory and he was taken as a war prisoner, and was executed by the firing squad soon after. This park was made in his memory for the courage he showed in the war.
The cache was placed as a joint project between the local Carnegie Library and school club named SRA. SRA, or Students Raising Awareness, is a group that touches on real world issues and does non-profit work to better the lives of the students and community. Some of their projects included a military supply drive for active duty troops, an anti-bullying assembly, and this geocache.
