Local Wayne County author, Connie Nordhielm Wooldridge's book explores transportation along the National Road from the early years to modern day and gives us a glimpse of how the changes dramatically affected people along the way.
The coordinates for this cache will take you to the 1841 roadside home of John and Susannah Huddleston and their 11 children who took advantage of their strategically located home to supplement their farm income and provide much needed Inn services to travelers. Weary pioneers making the difficult trek westward on the National Road would stop at the home for meals, provisions, shelter and to feed and rest their horses.
This cache is placed with permission and is available during daylight hours only. Please enter at main gate (west of house) and park in the parking lot behind the Huddleston Farmhouse. Tours of the farmhouse are available at 1 and 2 PM each Friday or by chance or appointment, April through November.
This cache is part of the Decades of Discovery series placed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Morrisson-Reeves Library. There were eight original caches in the series, each themed around a book or movie, that took you to unique places throughout Wayne County, Indiana. The series is slowly shrinking due to persistent muggles. We will keep as many of the original hides going as we can.
