History
The "Berlin Tunnel” had a second gallery direction Caterpillar (named ‘Hill 60 B’). Once the enemy positions were undermined, rooms full of explosives were placed. It was now important to protect those mines against German opposition. This thankless task was performed since November 1916 by the '1 st Australian Tunnelling Company’. German attempts to destroy the mine loads could be avoided only at the last minute
The explosion of the two mines would have cost the lives of 687 men of the 204de German division. The mines of Hill 60 and ‘Caterpillar’ would be the northern culmination of the Mine Battle of June 7, 1917.

De ‘Berlin Tunnel’ kende een tweede aftakking richting Caterpillar (‘Hill 60 B’). Eens de vijandige stellingen ondergraven waren, werden er kamers vol springstoffen geplaatst. Het was nu zaak om de mijnen te beschermen tegen Duitse tegenreacties. Deze ondankbare taak werd sedert november 1916 door de ‘1st Australian Tunnelling Company’ uitgevoerd. Duitse pogingen om de mijnladingen te vernietigen, konden slechts op het nippertje vermeden worden.
De ontploffingen van beide mijnen zouden het leven gekost hebben aan 687 mannen van de 204de Duitse divisie. De mijnen van Hill 60 en ‘Caterpillar’ zouden het noordelijk sluitstuk worden van de Mijnenslag van 7 juni 1917.

Le « Berlin Tunnel » avait une deuxième galerie direction Caterpillar (nommé ‘Hill 60 B’). Une fois les excavations terminées sous les positions ennemies, des chambres sont remplies d’explosifs. Il était important de protéger ces mines contre des actions Allemande. Cette tâche ingrate a été assurée à partir de Novembre 1916 par le '1st Australian Tunneling Company’. Des tentatives allemandes pour détruire les charges de mines ont été évitées à la dernière minute.
L'explosion des deux mines aurait coûté la vie à 687 hommes de la 204ième Division Allemande. Les mines de Hill 60 et ‘Caterpillar’ serait le point culminant le plus au nord de la bataille du 7 Juin, 1917.
