THE WILDERNESS

 This is a nice spot for a walk, even though in the last number of years the town has crept up on it.The walk brings you up through the woodland and is nice on anyday of the year. PLEASE DO NOT DROP THE CACHE AND REPLACE IT WHERE IT WAS FOUND.

 


Wilderness Gorge is a special area for wildlife in Clonmel, with wetland, woodland and grassland habitats. It has a huge variety of wild plants and animals. 68 different species of birds have been found here, including Little Egret, Wigeon, Peregrine, Kingfisher, Long-eared Owl and Stonechat, as well as many more common species such as Mute Swan and Mallard.19 species of butterfly have been found here, including Holly Blue, Orange Tip and Speckled Wood. Tipperary's only record of the rare Emperor dragonfly was made here. Many plants are found in the different habiats, such as Yellow Flag iris, Reedmace, Hart's-tongue Fern, Wold Marjoram and Yarrow, as well as Ash trees and Whitethorn. Old-mans Beard can be seen climbing over the trees.
