Geocache Description:

This location is at the start of the Nephin Wilderness experience.   It is an area that meets the ancient walking trails of the Bangor Trail and the Western Way.

This is the entrance to the Nephin Wilderness experience, it is also part of the historical Bangor Trail that runs from Newport - Bangor.  It is also the location of the Western Way that runs from Newport - Ballina.  These were popular routes for people from these areas to take to reach the market days in Newport.  It is widely accepted that both trails date back to at least the 16th Century.  It is a very scenic area of bog and forestry.  There are a number of waymarked ways here for the novice and more experienced to chose from. The Geocashe is in an area where you can seek shelter.
