Geocache Description:

ADMISSION: $100 pesos (expat/international) / $80 pesos (national) / $60 pesos (Yucatan resident with proof). Open: 9am - 3:00 PM. New stairs and restroom facilities installed December 2015. This is a High Muggle area. If the cache is not found, take a photo of yourself at the cache point or at the Cenote and post it here. Thank You.

~~CAUTION:  This cache is near a cenote – a deep hole in the ground (explained in more detail below).  Only glance at your GPS from time to time and keep your eyes on where you are walking as there is a VERY deep cliff nearby.

This cache is between the villages of Alabá and Mucuyche.  If approaching from Alabá, pass Hydro/Electricity tower on left, take single lane road to the left on the small curve….the rest is up to you !!

There is now a blue sign indicating Swimming.

The cache is just down the road from Cenote Kankirixché .  In Maya, Kankirixché means “tree with yellow fruit”.  It is highly recommended that you visit the cenote and go for a refreshing swim. Kankirixché boasts the beauty of stalactites and stalagmites as well as alamo tree roots.  Bring your swimming goggles - - you will be delighted to see the spectacular underwater galleries.

This cenote is most spectacular in mid-day when the sun beams into the cave.

A cenote (Maya = dzonot ) is a natural sinkhole created after limestrone bedrock collapses exposing the water underneath.  There are various types of cenotes . . . land level (similar to a pond), open well, semi-underground or completely underground.  The ancient Maya sometimes used cenotes for their water source, ceremonies, or sacrificial offerings.

Many geocache containers seem to go missing in the Yucatan (hey, these containers are handy!!). If the container is not in sight, please take a photo of yourself at the cache location - thanks. The container will be replaced frequently.
