Geocache Description:

AS THIS IS A HIGH MUGGLE AREA AND THE CACHE GOES MISSING FREQUENTLY . . . I ASK THAT YOU TAKE A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOURSELF AT THE GPS COORDINATES AND POST THEM HERE TO GET YOUR "POINT"

~~CAUTION:  This cache is near a cenote – a deep hole in the ground (explained in more detail below).  Only glance at your GPS from time to time and keep your eyes on where you are walking as there is a VERY deep cliff nearby.

Take a country drive to the village of Mucuyche.    The cache is NOT in the cenote, but will take you to this marvelous area.  The cache is located near an extremely deep jumping platform (minimum 50 ft ) at Cenote Yaluzil (aka Yaaludzil) which, in Maya, means a small bird. There is another “wooden” platform closer to the water part way down the stairs which is about a 15 ft jump.  Take caution when taking the stairs as some of the steps are uneven.  Keep your hands on the handrail.  It is highly recommended that you swim in the cenote to truly appreciate its wonder and beauty.  One stairway will take you to a lower jumping platform while another stairway will take you to the waters edge.

A cenote (Maya = dzonot ) is a natural sinkhole created after limestrone bedrock collapses exposing the water underneath.  There are various types of cenotes . . . land level (similar to a pond), open well, semi-underground or completely underground.  The ancient Maya sometimes used cenotes for their water source, ceremonies, or sacrificial offerings.
