Geocache Description:

This Geocache is located on a trail at Ballycroy National Park Visitor Centre.  The Cache is located on a very scenic looped walk offering panoramic views of the National Park and beyond.  The looped walk takes approx 20 minutes to complete from the carpark.  If the Visitor Centre car park is closed you can park at the gates and enter via the pedestrian gate.  The cache is a small lunch box with a notepad and pencil.

Ballycroy National Park was established in Novemeber 1998.  It comprises of over 11,000 hectares of Atlantic blanket bog and mountainous terrain, covering a vast uninhabited and unspoilt wilderness dominated by the Nephin Beg mountain range.  Slieve Carr is the highest mountain mountain in the range at 721 metes above sea level.  Scardaun Loughs lie between Nephin Beg and Slieve Carr.  From the viewing point, where the Cashe is located you can see each of these places of interest and also Achill Island, essentailly you experience panoramic views of the National Park and beyond.  There is an interesting large rock with spy holes that locates and names each peak in the area.
