I had originally planned to site the cache on Aspenshaw Road, due to the view from here across the valley, but instead chose this quiet and little-used footpath close by. Given its location, Top of Thornsett Brows can easily be incorporated into a circular walk along with several other caches in the area.
Parking is available on Aspenshaw Road or Briargrove Road. Walking up Briargrove Road to the footpath on which the cache is located, you will pass Aspenshaw Hall on the left. This Grade II Listed building, which dates back to the early 1700s is an attractive property and an interesting part of local history and is well worth a second glance.
The cache is a small Lock ‘n’ Lock box, which upon hiding had a few trade items with some space left over for a TB if required.
Although the terrain is relatively undemanding, this one is unlikely to be suitable for pushchairs due to the uneven nature of the footpath.
Due to tree coverage in the area, the GPS signal may be interrupted slightly, so a bit of hunting around may be required. Please note that as per Geocaching rules this cache is not hidden within the nearby dry stone wall.
