Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches that has been placed along the Arran Coastal Way and its connecting pathways between Sannox Bay and Lochranza. The caches have all been sited at significant points with the intention of introducing the cacher to the rich history, the wildlife and the natural beauty of this area. The Arran Coastal Way is Arrans newest path network and Circumnavigates the Isle of Arran for 100km's

This cache sits between the viewpoint and Hutton's Unconformity.

The Isle of Arran has been a Mecca for geologists for many years due to its wonderfully varied geology. Even in the early days of geological exploration, the likes of James Hutton and Sir Archibald Geikie were attracted to its rugged slopes and coastline. It was here at Lochranza in particular that Hutton first found evidence that supported his ‘Uniformitarianism’ theory – that the Earth was much older than previously thought.
This cache is hidden off the path to Hutton's Unconformity beyond the viewpoint at the head of Lochranza Harbour. It will be harder to find in the summer when the heather is up!!

After locating this cache please replace cammo and leave the area litter free. I have special permission for this cache so long as dogs are kept on under control at all times and no litter is left on the A.C.W path network.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy the natural beauty around this section of the Arran Coastal Way.
