Geocache Description:

Welcome back to the Spiral Stela.  This is a two stage Multi Cache, that gets you taking a closer look at the art work.  At stage one, you will play a game of I Spy, where you will collect the necessary information to find Stage two.  At Stage two, you will find a magnetic micro cache.

Spiral Stella, a brilliant new work created by Canadian artist Peter Powning, was unveiled August 25, 2013.  The work is comprised of a tall stainless stela obelisk with a cast bronze spiral made from imprints of items collected from local residents – a process Peter calls Cultural Mulch.  More than 200 objects from residents were incorporated into the work, which was installed in front of The Burlington Performing Arts Centre.

The 3,000-pound, 17-foot-high sculpture that is two-and-half feet wide at its base is primarily made of stainless steel, with a strip of bronze featuring the impressions of community items wrapped around it.

The funding for Spiral Stela came from two sources. Dan Lawrie, a downtown Burlington resident and businessman donated $37,500, while the city contributing $75,000.

“What I’ve seen in communities I’ve worked with is a strong desire to say, ‘This is who we are,’” Powning said. “This isn’t something that is going to be somewhere else — this is going to be defined by the people in this community.”

 The Challenge

Please be respectful of others in the area, and there is absolutely no climbing required to find the necessary information.  Bend down low, or stand up tall, but there is no required information beyond eye level of a person of average height.

Now take a closer look:

A)  (Here’s an easy one to start) What’s the address of the Burlington Performing Art’s Centre?   A = _ _ _

B)  What is the Roman Numeral equivalent to the symbol at the very bottom (point) of the cultural mulch spiral?  B = _ _

C)  Find the Olympic Medal.  What is the year on this Medal?  C = _ _ _ _

D)  Find the 6 letter word below the Paint Brush and Eye Glasses?  What is the digital root of this word?  D = _

E)  Find the digital root of the 11 letter word on the medal above the telephone?   E = _

F)  Find the razor blade.  What is the numerical value of the (lower case) letter above it?  F = _

G)  There is a glass cutter in the cultural mulch, and two heads of wheat.  What is the position of the letter in the alphabet, directly between the these items?  (be careful)    G = _ _

H)  See the Railway Spike?  What is the year on the Canada Games Medal directly below it?  H= _ _ _ _

To find the final, solve [(A x B) - C] ÷ 1000, and then add it to the following: N 43 17.197

Next, solve {[(D + E + F) x G] + H} ÷ 1000, and then add it to the following: W 079  45.809

Good Luck and Happy Caching!
