The playground is complete with rubberized surfaces, ramps, handrails, a tabletop sandbox, a wheelchair swing and interactive activities. There also is a JennSwing, an inclined swing appropriate for children with respiratory problems who can't stay upright.
The $178,000 playground was paid for with a $75,000 grant from the Children's Services Council of Broward County, $63,000 from Davie's capital budget and $40,000 from its open-space bonds.
It's not all about the children. If there is a parent in a wheelchair, they are now able to roll on the playground and be there in the same area with their child. Any grandparent can also be on that surface.
The playground gives all children the opportunity to interact with one another. The town recently passed an initiative where every park done or redone in the future will have special equipment.
