Geocache Description:

On October 28, 1939, Admiral Byrd's Snow Cruiser veered off the Lincoln Highway and crashed here into the muddy waters of Pike Run.  It was on its way from Chicago to Boston, where it would be put on a ship bound for Antarctica. It would be a matter of days before the huge 37-ton machine could be put back on the road.  During that time, it is estimated that as many as 125,000 people would visit the crash site.

The cache is hidden above road level (not under the bridge).  It is best approached by driving west on Lincoln Highway and parking on the north side of the road.  If the shoulder is wet, there is ample room to park directly on the bridge, but put on your hazard flashers if doing so.  It is intended to be a quick park and grab, but take time to look for the old roadbed on the southwest side of the bridge.  The previous bridge was on a very sharp bend and is at least partly to blame for the crash.
