EXCITING DAYS LIVING AT THE FORT!

Back in the 40's, my dad was in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Reynolds, on Angel Island. Do you remember seeing the "Bake House?" Well, that's where my dad spent long hours, almost every day. He was the Head Cook for the regiment. What a wonderful smell of fresh bread! To this day, I get a little teary-eyed when I smell fresh bread.
My mom also served in the army, and we all lived in that beautiful little house shown here. My mom was a physical fitness instructor, and gave the troops Zumba lessons during the day. Well, with all that fresh bread, everybody needed those lessons to keep the pounds off! She was also a Black Belt in Karate.
Well, during the day, I admit I had much opportunity to get into mischief. Sometimes we played with the big guns, and fired them when no one was looking. It was pretty easy, but you had to watch what you shot at. Boy did they make a big BANG! Once, we accidentally put a big canon ball thru one of the officer's houses--that's why one of them is in such bad shape (the house, I mean, not the officer.) I got caught when I posted the picture online. Dumb!
Anyway, one day I saw my dad, Basso Sr., hide a funny object, and I asked him, "Dad, why are you placing the container labeled, "Geocache" ?
"Well, you see, little Basso, many years from now some nice people will go looking for it."
"Okay, whatever."
I confess I didn't understand what my dad meant, but I left the container alone.
I had a good childhood on the fort--so many stories to tell! Like the time I swam over to my friends house on Alcatraz. But that's another story.
I have such fond memories of my childhood on Angel Island. But I've always wondered what happened to that little container Basso Sr put out. Is it still there? Can you let me know?
P.S. When you visit, whatever you do, don't fire those dang cannons at anyone!
Congrats for FTF to deadley! Now I can rest easy, knowing that old cache is still there!
