Goongerah Thunderbox Traditional Cache

This cache is in the Goongerah campground at the thunderbox.  The thunderbox has a range of uses including the providing of information for touring through the area and stuff related to fire.  

Over the last summer Goongerah had a fire damage parts of it, including two houses and the bonang rd has 60kms of burnt area alongside it, as you will have discovered driving up here.

Goongerah is a town of people living an alternative lifestyle and very keen on protecting the surrounding forests.  Now that doesn't mean you are going to be offered a smoke like nimbin or see people walking naked down the road.  It means it has become self sufficient.  Most people grow and produce their own food and choose to live off the grid.  It has a school and a fire station and a public phone box.

It provides a great base for travelling into the nearby Errinundra and Snowy River National Parks or just getting away for some peice of quiet.

The campground has nice sites, wood bbq's, a beautiful river to swim in and a large amount of wildlife in the area.

There is no mobile phone reception.
