The gateway to Achnacarry Estate and five caches near by.
This cache is at the estate front gate with parking close by. We have secured permission for caching at Achnacarry estate (all 120,000 acres of it) by liaising with the Laird himself, Mr Donald Cameron of Loch Eil who is also the Chief of the Clan Cameron. You may park here for the nearby caches then drive on up the rough road to the Clan Cameron Museum car park for the wee multi and HQ View. Parking is free and you can walk around the estate taking notice of any notices you encounter as this is a working estate with fishing, Pheasant shooting and Deer stalking at certain times of the year. We are not quite sure if all the estate staff will be aware that caching will be taking place on the estate but if questioned you may say that Mr Cameron is aware and he has ok'd Geocaching here. The estate was taken over by the Army in the 2nd World War for Commando training and the big house near the Museum was the HQ with the Commandos billets in the field near by. The house was left in a very poor state after the war and it took many years to return it to its former glory. We had the opportunity of looking round the house when liaising with Mr Cameron regarding caching here and it is quite stunning in its condition and location by the river. Sadly it is not open to the public as it is a family home. We hope you enjoy caching here in this great location.
