Letterboxing started on Dartmoor in the 1850s and is still going strong today. Originally finders would leave a postcard in the box, to be posted by the next finder. As the game grew in popularity this changed to a stamp being left in the box and finders would take a print for their own records, to prove they had been there. Finding them requires navigational skills, using grid references and compass bearings, along with knowledge of local landmarks.
This cache was inspired by the techniques needed to find the Dartmoor letter boxes. In order to find the cache, you need to line up a couple of different landmarks.
When both criteria are met, you are standing at GZ!
Stand at the published co-ordinates and face the river.
To your left there are three tall narrow poplar type trees growing close together along the bank of the river. Line up the third tree from the left (the smallest) with the tall chimney.
Facing you there is a broken hedge line which converges at a corner with another hedge to your right leading away from the river.
Line the shrub at the end of this hedge up with the mast in Colwick Woods.
