Geocache Description:

Welcome to the series of Famous Pairs that are along Long Lake Road. If you are planning on doing the whole series in one day, I suggest you look find parking nearby because there is no parking on Long Lake Road itself and this series is about 3.5 miles from end to end. So put on your best walking shoes, or take your bike, or go with your favorite fellow cacher and enjoy the day.

Major warning though, Long Lake Road has A LOT of muggles, so please be careful. Don't be surprised by the distances between some of these Pairs. Oh yeah, if you do this in one day, I suggest you start from the south and work your way north.

The Lone Ranger is a fictional masked former Texas Ranger who fights injustice in the American Old West with his native American friend, Tonto. The character has become an enduring icon of American culture. He first appeared in 1933 in a radio show conceived either by WXYZ (Detroit) radio station owner George W. Trendle, or by Fran Striker, the show's writer. The character was originally believed to be inspired by Texas Ranger Captain John R. Hughes, to whom the book "The Lone Star Ranger" by Zane Grey was dedicated in 1915. Hughes hunted down the gang who killed Texas Ranger Captain Frank Jones in an ambush.  The radio series proved to be a hit and spawned a series of books (largely written by Striker), an equally popular television show that ran from 1949 to 1957, comic books, and movies. The title character was played on radio by George SeatonEarle Graser, and most memorably Brace Beemer. To television viewers, Clayton Moore was the Lone Ranger. Tonto was played by, among others, John Todd, Roland Parker and in the television series, Jay Silverheels, who was a Mohawk from the Six Nations Indian Reserve in OntarioCanadaTonto usually referred to the Lone Ranger as "Kemo sabe", variously described as meaning either "faithful friend," or "trusty scout" These catchphrases, his trademark silver bullets, and the theme music from the William Tell Overture have become tropes of popular culture.
