Geocache Description:

What does Stars, Golf, Bikes & Burgers have in common?

MAY 10th, 2014

May 10, 2014 is National Astronomy Day
National Astronomy Day, part of Astronomy Week, is aimed at connecting the public to astronomers and astonomy enthusiasts. It was started by Doug Berger, the president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California in 1973. He had the idea to set up various telescopes in busy urban locations so that passersby could enjoys views of the stars. His idea took off and the event has grown to include several sponsoring organizations associated with astronomy.

May 10th is also National Miniature Golf Day.Miniature golf has been around since the 1800s! During that time, people considered it highly inappropriate for a woman to raise a golf club above her shoulder level. In 1867, the Ladies’ Putting Club of St. Andrews, Scotland built a small scaled-down golf course so that women could play the sport without creating a scandal. It was the first miniature golf course in history.

Miniature golf courses began popping up in America during the early 20th century. However, these facilities were usually located at hotels and private resorts, so they were not yet available to the masses. What better way to celebrate National Miniature Golf Day than to enjoy a round or two of Putt-Putt with our Geo-Friends!

May is National Bike Month which includes an ever-expanding diversity of events in communities nationwide — but the biggest day of the month is Bike to Work Day.

More than half of the U.S. population lives within five miles of their workplace, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get to work. With increased interest in healthy, sustainable and economic transportation options, it’s not surprising that, from 2000 to 2011, the number of bicycle commuters in the U.S. grew by more than 47 percent.

May 10, 2014 is also Clean Up Your Room Day & National Shrimp Day & National Train Day & National Babysitter's Day

Plus May is National Hamburger Month & National Strawberry Month

So, Jump into your favorite Geo-Shorts, Grab your Bike, Head on over to the posted coordinates to arrive at 5:00 pm for a Big Burger (or a Strawberry picnic), afterwhich we can play Miniture Golf (or throw some horseshoes or play some volley ball) before we sit down under the Stars to enjoy a view of a passing GeoCache (or GeoCoin) and listen to FTF Caching Tales (like Capt. Oloft's fishing stories, some may actually be true).

Bring your camera and get ready to snap some pics,
Hop on your Bike but watch-out for those sticks.

In this quest there may be muggles,
But on Saturday you should have no struggles.

Dress up for Medieval times or just in shorts,
Putt-Putt Golf is part of these huge resorts.

Today we celebrate National Astronomy Day,
Hamburger Month & Strawberries in May.

This will be a day of certain Texas fun,
Beautifully warm with a breeze and full of Sun.

Bring a Picnic basket, we all can share,
Sitting at the tables in the open air.

Tonight, come along and look at the stars,
If you're lucky you just might see Mars.

Marlon Quibodeaux will manage to meet everyone along the way,

Telling our Caching Tales is something we love doing everyday.

Be Respectful of others and Please have FUN,
We will leave this place neat and clean, when all is done!
