What is the WWFM?

This is the 11th Annual World Wide Flash Mob for Geocachers!

These events are happening all over the world at the same time (see the list here)

Last year there were 558 events held in 42 countries, attended by 25,125 geocachers!

Every event has the same requirements, no matter where they are:

  1. Event is at 10:00 a.m. PDT (most are)
  2. The event lasts for exactly 15 minutes
  3. A "meal" is served (really a snack)
  4. A picture is taken
  5. The log is signed by all
  6. Some have prize awards or raffles
  7. Some have an activity (like flying toy planes)
  8. Prizes Prizes Prizes!!!

The Fly-In

(our local event)

  • Where: Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline, Arrowhead Marsh area
  • When: June 7, 2014 precisely at 10:00 a.m.
  • What happens: At 10:00, look for the big red balloon and streamers marking the event site.
  • Then we will:
    1. Sign the log
    2. Enter the prize raffle
    3. Share the meal
    4. Fly our planes (we will have a few extras just in case)
    5. Participate in the group picture
    6. Trade (or discover) trackables
    7. Make new friends, meet old ones
  • What to Bring: Pen (BYOP), balsa-wood airplane (or paper), no plastic or foam please)
  • After the event concludes, you are free to cache in the area. There are many caches within walking distance. The area is very accessible, most paths are paved and level. There are also picnic areas available.

Remember, this is a Flash Mob! Prior to the start time, please do not wait in the immediate area. Wander around and enjoy the scenery. Please don't fly your plane until the Flash Mob!


After the event, please disperse quickly, so that we can leave nearby Muggles scratching their heads and wondering what they just witnessed!


If You Would Like To Attend

  • If you think you would like to attend our event, please post a "Will Attend" log on the cache page. This will help us to get an estimate of how many "pilots" to expect. Please let us know how many might be attending with you.
  • After the event, don't forget to post an "Attended" log so that you will get the geocaching.com WWFM XI souvenir.
    If you don't log it within a week, you may not get the souvenir.
  • Don't forget to bring an airplane to fly!

After the Event...

Following the WWFM (@11:00 a.m.), we are hosting a CITO in the same park! Help us thank the park district (EBRPD) for providing us with such great places to cache and have a good time!
Please go to the event page and post a separate "Will Attend" log so we can give EBRPD an estimate of attendees.
