We called this bird song as we have heard nothing but birds singing since 4.45 am this morning starting with the dawn chorus and a walk through the park, beautiful. Lovely warm sunny day, spring is here at last! Head for the opening in the trees and the cache is in between two pine trees. The cache fits in with its surroundings.
This 17 hectare award winning park is a symbol of regeneration for the area. What was once a derelict mining area and land fill site has been transformed into a strategic park with walking trails, play facilities, skate park, conservation centre with public toilets and creative art installations all set within the authentic landscape which symbolises Cornish mining and the natural habitats that make up this environment. The Red River runs through the Park marking the start of the Red River Nature Reserve. The mixture of heath, woodland, river and pond creates a wonderful habitat mix attracting many wildlife species. The site is located adjacent to the A30 and is visible from Tolvaddon Road and the college campus to the east. Take the bus from Camborne centre to Tuckingmill and alight at Tuckingmill Hotel or 'Speedy Hire'. In the 19th Century this area had 6 tin/copper mines including an arsenic works and gas works. The Arsenic Chimney is Grade 2 listed and remains on the site, a reminder of the area's past history. The site has also become a centre of excellence in conservation. A sustainable building with turf roof has been constructed in the park and is home to BTCV. From this base, conservation tasks are co-ordinated between the council, the youth offending team and the community. This partnership between the public, voluntary sector and local residents has secured the long-term maintenance of the valley ensuring that the community can continue to explore the rich local environment in a safe and attractive setting.
