In the 1800s mine shafts were sunk at Sandlodge, Sandwick to mine chalcopyrite, malachite and hermatite. The copper mining extended for some time but turned out to be not economically viable. Had modern technology been available a much better seam is located nearby and the end result would have been different. Miners came from Wales and later from Cornwall to work in the mine along with local people.
The cache is a lock and lock box with a log book and a pencil as well as some swappable items.
Parking is available near the Mousa ferry waiting room. There is a designated path along the clifftop but care must be taken.
