Trains & Turtles Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pirate1977: It is entirely gone now and I am unable to replace it at this time. I did check to make sure nothing remained. It is better to archive it and maybe another active user will be able to create a wonderful new cache in this place someday soon.

Geocache Description:

Small cache in a wooded spot by a local pond.

This pond and these woods were my playground as a boy growing up in Marshfield. My passion for exploring the outdoors was born and cultivated here. From fishing to hiking to catching turtles and frogs (and avoiding the snakes) this beautiful spot is full of great memories.

The path that leads to this spot is an old railroad bed. In years long gone, the train would rumble down past these trees as the most modern and efficient transportation available. The train and the tracks are ancient history now but the wide pathway still runs from Steamboat Drive to Careswell Street, mostly going through forest with one big pond and some marshland mixed in. The historic Pilgrim Trail intersects this path and there are many other trails to explore, but be aware most trails are not marked and maps are not provided anywhere.

Today, the pond where this cache is located continues to thrive. It is a haven for turtles and members of their booming population are frequently found here. There is also a very healthy fish stock, a nice variety of swans, ducks, and geese, plus frogs and snakes around too. Keep your eyes peeled!

Cars can park at the junction of Steamboat Drive and Fletcher Drive, by the trail head. It is not a long walk from there. People walking their dogs do it often and residents have no issue with it. There are also a couple spots to park at the Careswell Street end, I believe.

You are looking for a medium sized lock-and-lock not too far from the water. A little bushwacking is needed (but not much at all). I started it off with the log book with pen and pencil, a travel bug, some of my gold coins, and a couple additional trinkets.

These are the woods I will always call home so please tread lightly and thank you, in advance, for keeping the cache going. I hope you enjoy this spot as much as I always have. I will be sure to check on it myself from time to time and update as needed.

**Congrats to theflyawayboat for the FTF!
