Geocache Description:

Microcache.  Park n Grab.  First cache in Lost Ski Areas (LSA) series.

This is the first in a series titled "Lost Ski Areas of the Front Range" honoring the ghosts of skiing past that still haunt our 21st-century landscape.  The story begins in 1913 at Inspiration Point in northwest Denver (yes, Denver!)

Inspiration point was never a commercial ski area, but it played a crucial role in the development of skiing in Colorado.   It was here that Colorado Ski Hall-of-Famer Carl Howelson and friends dazzled up to 10,000 Denverites and visitors at an exhibition held during the Stock Show in January 1913.  Back then, skiing meant ski jumping, and Howelson and his fellow "skee" enthusiasts built a rickety jump and landing pad which they used for competitions throughout the (nineteen) teens and twenties.  The cache is a bison tube located at the end of a neighborhood street.  It might take a little creative searching to find (hence, the 2.5 difficulty rating). Look up the hill to the east and imagine wooden ski jumps protruding from the steepest portion of the northwest-facing hillside.
