Geocache Description:

Welcome to the first edition of the Calgary History Tour.  The idea behind these caches is to give people a little snippet of history on the web page and then direct them to a real place that was part of that history.

First Nations

For much of the millenia between the last frigid gasp of the Pleistocene ice age, and the arrival of European explorers some 400 years ago, First Nations Peoples have dominated the Great Plains of North America. Their lifestyle was mainly nomadic.

Many First Nations leaders played vital roles in the attempt to both save their people and preserve as much of their way of life as possible. From Sitting Bull to Bull Head, Running Weasel to Deerfoot, Ben Calf Robe to this man, they braved an onslaught of foreign culture as relentless as the wind blowing over their beloved grasslands. Their lives and deeds are immortalized in various sites within our city. Their courage will be remembered as long as these winds still blow.
