Geocache Description:

A small cache to ensure that you discover the secrets that Nevern has to offer. This cache is hidden on the perimeter of the church grounds. Make sure you visit!

By placing the cache here I'm hoping that you will enjoy all that Nevern has to offer.

The Church:
There are two special features to Nevern's St. Brynach Church which I loved to visit as a child. The church is said to have been originally founded in the sixth century, by St. Brynach, a contemporary of St. David.
Firstly, there is the large, impressive cross at Nevern churchyard which is closely related in style to the cross at Carew, and is of a similar late 10th or early 11th century date. There is an old folk story that a cuckoo would land here to signal the start of Spring as the congregation waited inside to hear her call.
Secondly, the ancient yew trees which border the path leading up to the church. One of the twisted old trees has a dark red resin that drips from an old wound on the trunk. It looks very much like blood, and the tree is known as the bleeding yew. One legend claims that a monk was hung from the branches for a crime that he did not commit and in his final moment, he proclaimed that the tree would bleed for ever, to confirm his innocence.

The Castle:
The castle was located on a spur of the hill 150 m northwest of the church. Little remains of it now but it's worth a visit.

The Cross:
There is a Pilgrim's Cross cut into the rock on the roadside between the village and the castle. It's a trek and you'll need to be keep your eyes peeled.
